Apple’s annual “Far Out” conference this year introduced fans to a new lineup of tech, including the much-anticipated iPhone 14. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max were the highlights of the show, representing the next generation of iPhones. The event also included reveals of a handful of new Apple products, including the Apple Watch Series 8 and the second generation of AirPods Pro.
Everything Apple unveiled at the event will go up for preorder over the next few days, and the new tech will begin hitting store shelves as early as September 16. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple’s fall show this year.
The upcoming iPhone 14 doesn’t look too different from the iPhone 13 on the surface, but it’s got a lot of unique features under the hood. For one thing, the display is getting a major overhaul, going up to 1,200 nits and including the same HDR capabilities seen since the iPhone X. The new screen also features Dolby Vision support.
As is standard for a new Apple product, it features a new processor that’s yet still faster than its predecessor. The A15 Bionic chip is one the beefiest processors ever seen in a smartphone, and it makes the iPhone 14 great for productivity tasks. Notably, the new phone will also no longer support physical SIM cards and will instead use electronic SIMs instead. The new phone will hit shelves on September 16.
In addition to the newly-upgraded iPhone 14, Apple also showed off the latest generation of Apple Watches. The Series 8 features smaller bezels than its predecessor, giving it a larger display, and uses new power-saving features to keep the display on at all times. It will also include a new crash-detection feature in the event of a car accident that will alert the authorities and selected members of your contacts list.
The Series 8 will start at $399 and will feature a wide range of colors and wrist strap options. It’ll hit store shelves on September 16.
Apple’s advanced, noise-canceling AirPods Pro are getting a facelift. The H1 chip is being replaced by the more advanced H2 chip, and Apple promises that the new AirPods will have an even better sound quality and upgraded transparency modes this time around. They’ll retail for $250 and will go up for sale on September 23.
